Do us all a favor! Don’t just shine, SHINE BRIGHT! In order to shine we need to accept where we are in life and actively pursue where were want to be and how we want to feel; regardless of how good or bad things currently are.

People who are the happiest, the most energetic, the ones who just seem to shine; know who they are,  what they are here for and their emotions represent that. How they show up in the world – represents that.

I do not know you, but I know you have something to give. We all do. Your job is to find out what it is and give it. If you do not, we all get let down, we are all deprived – we all suffer.

Everyday, moment by moment we have the ability to decide what we are gong to give. Do…

Monday Motivation; Be Yourself

stylin
Some 12 years ago I was soaking up the culture and gorgeous architecture of Paris. Up in the clouds of Montmartre I came across these stylin’ characters. I look at the courage and creativity these people have. Are these not the type of people who inspire? Are these not the type of people who walk to the beat of their own drum and usually want everyone to join in?

Being your own person, comfortable in your own skin is so important!

When I was young I never stood out as confident or comfortable with myself. There is always a bully or child that enjoys making fun; every generation has them. ‘Children can be cruel.’ Children can be as honest and as blunt as they come.
It is, however, how you deal and move on in these experiences that have the power to shape what you become. However, sometimes we just need to learn the first steps of loving ourselves and dealing with diversity.
I really love the initiative that Dove has regarding empowering girls. The high percentage of young girls that quit doing things they love because of body image or confidence is such a shame.

I used to work in a Grade 2 classroom helping with reading, activities and building safe relationships through play. I truly felt like I made an impact on certain children’s ability to cope and their level of confidence by the end of the school year.

As I get older, more than ever, I see how crucial good role models, close trusted relationships and open conversation is for children. It’s a source of strength and reassurance that we all need during points throughout life. I am finding lately that friendships I have are helping me along to look at my surroundings, and my mothering, in different ways. Friends offer advice just when it is needed the most.

This blogging community is actually a beautiful way to break away from yourself without the pressures of face to face criticism. This community is supportive and encouraging. There are all walks of life just being themselves and sharing what they love.

There has been times when I have looked back on events that I chose not to participate in because of personal reservations. I know now that I should have gone. If I had felt uncomfortable I could have just left. People regularly miss out on learning new skills, gaining long-lasting relationships or just pure fun.

Today and from now on I urge adults to share positive pieces of reinforcement, compliments, encouragement and advice as well as their time in activities with children; alongside their parents.
Today and from now on I urge you to let yourself be you. Go try things and leave your inner critic at home.

“We are our own worst enemies.”

If you are always worried about what people will think or say, then you never will be free to show them what makes you tick. You might miss out on great jobs and learning things about yourself. With all the billions of individuals in the world there is bound to be handfuls of others that really get you and see the beauty in what you say, offer and the image of what is You.

Don’t limit yourself!

Monday Motivator; Slow down and Look with Artistic eyes

Lisbon subway map

Lisbon subway map

This memory is my Monday motivation. It was taken over 10 years ago on a 14 day trip through Portugal that I took with a friend I met in Austria on a previous adventure.

We started in Faro, the south of Portugal, and leisurely travelled to the north as we stopped at locations, some planned some not, along the way. We only went as far north as Lisbon because 14 days was pressed for time as it was; especially for an architect(my friend) and a curiously passionate history enthusiast(myself).

This photo was taken in a subway station in Lisbon.
Graffiti at its finest.
I want to propose that every city have one or two locations where artists of all skill can freely compose art in an outdoor public place. Of course every project or proposal has guidelines; no profanity, racist connotations, gang tags or ad campaigns, for example. There would also have to be talks of plans on how, and if, to cover costs of materials used. Would it be a free formed slab in a park, on a city building or owners of businesses putting in bids for their location, for example?!

I believe it would be a beautiful addition to every place. In Europe I have seen many areas that have a public place for artists to create. Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Paris; although I don’t think they were created by just anyone.

Imagine being able to go back to where you painted your first ‘painting’ before realizing how gifted you really are. Or a family vacation revisited of that place your children put their mark, on their terms, during a quiet reflective moment. Inspiration where you least expect it.

This type of project could bring people together who usually wouldn’t meet. It could be a tourist attraction in a place otherwise overlooked. Who knows, maybe this type of mural could become a historical masterpiece after a future Picasso, inventor or President makes their own leisurely marks.

I personally would make it a point to walk by a place like this daily just to people watch and get my fix of a breath of fresh art.
This memory in Portugal has travelled with me through the years. It set a tone for that particular day of slowing down and looking with more artistic eyes.

Would you contribute to an open air piece like this? What would you add? What do you do to slow down?
Is this the next best idea for community awareness, tourism or United Nations?!

Possibly. Regardless of how you look at it, displays like this are a way for people to think differently and look with someone elses eyes as well as show that humans have a common link to each other through art, of all forms.

{If you want to see and here more about Portugal; Visit again to keep an eye out for a post I will write about this 14 day trek}

Spring Treasure; a feature event

This season represents rejuvenation, a waking up of the senses and spirit. An end of hibernation and a beginning of life.

I have been inspired to make a regular post within my blog pages dedicated to and as a countdown to Spring.
I am usually late to plant in the fall, prepare my garden, and set dates for those first Spring events.
Starting each Fall season and ending the end of May, I will now post preparations and ideas counting down to Spring. These topics will range from the garden, activities, recipes, blogs, day trips, treasure hunts, DIY, projects, photo taking and simple moments in the rain.
I’m so excited for these posts most of all because I will be sharing the outdoors and new traditions with my daughter. On my daughters birthday, my spring baby, I think I just might take her to a really great nursery to pick a plant that she can plant in the garden. Maybe this could even be an opportunity to meet up with some friends.
~ Let’s do this!~
